This afternoon I felt the overwhelming urge to comment on a most enjoyable afternoon.
After wandering around Connaught Circle and surrounds for a couple of hours, I finally decided to go to the Hotel Rak International, a suggestion in my Lonely Planet guide book. Walked up and got a room for 650 rupees – with air conditioning and a TV. For those of you not up on international exchange rates, that equates to about $16 US! I probably don’t need to offer much comment on the quality of the lodging….
Anyway, to get back to the purpose of this post: Some of the most enjoyable moments of this trip have been the people I have had the opportunity to meet. This afternoon, sitting in the cafe at the Metropolis Cafe on the Main Bazaar here in Delhi, I had a thoroughly enjoyable, challenging, and enlightening visit with a gentleman from England by the name of Paul.
Paul is from Britain. He has visited and done business in India for years. Having the opportunity to meet individuals such as Paul, and others along the way, has added greatly to the experience. I think that all of us get too settled in our day to day lives and can benefit greatly from interacting with those outside our normal realm. This trip has certainly provided me that opportunity and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of any such opportunity.

I thought you were supposed to be forgetting about Monroe and all of us, and taking in the sights in your vacation of a lifetime!
But thanks for thinking of us all.
I know foreign places DO make you Thankful for all you have at home, and the adventure is fun! And you’re right, we do need to get outside of our little boxes, often. There are alot of people in this world, some have something to add to us, some we add to. We are all here for a purpose. (Just not everyone knows what their’s is!)

I just got caught up with you in Delhi and your adventures are fascinating! Your photos are really beautiful. I hope by now that you are not anywhere near the earth quake in Sichuan Province. You mentioned Beijing not being ready for the Summer Olympics. We felt that way about Athens when we were there a few months before the Olympics. The traffic was impossible, and it seemed there was no way to improve it. They were ready though as I recall…must have been the gods cast a spell (a good one). Hopefully, China will get it together by August. So very sad about the lives lost and injured in yesterday’s quake. Sounds like you are having a great time. Take care. Regards from Jerry, too.
